Lyme Disease
What is Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease is an infection caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria and is most commonly spread through the bite of an infected tick. Lyme disease can affect people of all ages. If treatment is received early after the initial infection, the risk of developing chronic symptoms is low. In some cases, however, the initial infection does not cause symptoms, (so people are not aware that they have been infected), or symptoms are confused with the flu or another virus, so treatment is not received. In these instances and, sometimes, even after early treatment, patients continue to experience chronic symptoms, which can be disabling. Some experts refer to the syndrome of persistent symptoms as chronic Lyme disease, while others prefer Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS), but they are describing the same condition.
Common Symptoms of Lyme Disease:
Symptoms of chronic Lyme/PTLDS disease can vary widely from one individual to another, and even mimic other disorders. Patients often experience a pattern of relapsing or waxing and waning of symptoms.
• cognitive changes: brain fog, impaired memory, inability to concentrate
• digestive issues: loss of appetite and nausea
• profound fatigue
• poor sleep
• lethargy
• flu-like symptoms (especially shortly after being infected) : chills, fever, muscle aches
• mood changes: anxiety and/or depression
• pain: aches, shooting pains
Our Process for Healing:
Lyme disease is frequently misdiagnosed. Co-infections and other complications can also further compromise immune function and make symptoms more severe. We utilize a multi-faceted testing approach to identify Lyme infection, co-infections, and complicating factors such as heavy metal toxicity, nutritional deficiency, hormone imbalance, and gut dysfunction.
Our comprehensive process begins with your consultation, examination, and advanced diagnostic lab work, if needed. We use precise and highly specific testing techniques, (that are not typically offered in most hospitals or medical practices), for identifying infections, combined with a thorough history and symptoms to identify the root cause of your symptoms and develop a safe and effective customized program to allow your body to heal and recover.
Healing strategies may include IV therapies, nutritional and lifestyle recommendations, pharmaceutical-grade supplements, and other techniques uniquely suited to your needs. Our doctors work closely with you to ensure optimal healing, making adjustments in protocol tailored to your symptoms and tolerance to the protocol.
Each Lyme case is different, so individual recommendations and length of protocol vary from person to person. Although many Lyme patients come to us weary after a long and frustrating journey in their path to recovery, we have seen many people achieve amazing results and truly reclaim their health.
